When Andre Johnson reported on time to Houston Texans training camp, he already was behind in learning the subject matter.
Johnson missed the entirety of the offseason program due to a holdout, but he hasn’t allowed the missed time slow him down.
“He’s a true pro,” starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said of Johnson, via ESPN.com. “I think everybody here knows that and I’ve always admired him from afar. I’ve heard a lot about his work ethic and the way that he attacks everything. It was nice to sit back and throw to him a little bit today.”
For the Texans to feature a dynamic offense this season, first-year head coach Bill O’Brien will need Johnson to be in sync with Fitzpatrick and the rest of the offense. And it appears as if that’s already happening, only days in.
“I went out there and wasn’t really thinking a lot,” Johnson said. “I got with Fitz after everything last night and me and him went over some stuff. Everybody has been very helpful with me picking up everything. It’s just fun to be back out here and be with my teammates and getting back to football.”
Texans players aren’t the only ones who are happy to have Johnson back on the field. The fans reportedly let out a big roar after Johnson caught his first pass from Fitzpatrick.
As Johnson gets further entrenched in the offense, expect the roars to continue.
